Training despite competitive sport
After the sports school class, the 21-year-old did the KV as "sports training", which simply takes a year longer. In addition, she has always played competitive sport at the highest level. But an education was important to her and her parents. She is one of the few members of the national team who can juggle work and sport.
Never bored
Her weeks are strictly timed: training three times a week at the Biel performance centre and otherwise training in Bern and at home. On average, she trains six days a week, which means around 25 hours a week. All this in addition to 60 per cent of her work in the finance department at the Kursaal Bern. Plus training trips all over the world. She has just been to Japan. She has no time for boredom.
Challenging planning
It's a good thing that her team leader is also a former athlete and knows Francesca's needs well. The finance team makes everything possible. Even if the competition planning is sometimes difficult because participation depends on qualification.
Experience it live in Bern
Her goal for this year is the European Championships in Barcelona in July, if everything goes well. Because it has not yet been decided who will qualify to take part. And qualification for a home event - the Bouldering World Cup in Bern in May - has not yet been finalised either. But if all goes well, it will be a wonderful opportunity for everyone in the Kursaal Bern team to experience the transformation of their office colleague at the desk into a climbing pro on the wall.
