Green Key is an international, high-quality eco-certification programme for hotels, holiday parks, small accommodations, conference centres, attractions and restaurants. Currently more than 4,000 establishments in 60 countries are Green Key certified.

Regular onside audits are part of it

Green Key certification is based on compliance with strict, internationally recognised criteria in the areas of environmental management (water, energy, waste, cleaning, etc.) and sustainability education (employees, guests, suppliers, etc.). Compliance with the criteria is confirmed by a strict application process and reviewed by regular on-site audits conducted by third parties.

Certification is valid for one year

Green Key is supported by various institutional partners, international hotel chains and tour operators, and works with a number of web partners. The Green Key programme is managed by the international charity Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and its national member organisations.

Green Key criteria

Establishments that are awarded Green Key certification meet a range of strict environmental requirements. To date, 13 categories and more than 100 criteria have been developed.
