Bird hotel in the small Kursaal forest

As a Green Key certified establishment, biodiversity is important to us. In February 2024, we hung up 20 nesting boxes with two differently sized entry holes for cavity breeders, such as tits, pied flycatchers, sparrows and nuthatches. These provide a peaceful place for the birds to raise their young during the nesting period in spring. Birds need good nesting conditions. According to the Swiss Ornithological Institute, around 40% of Swiss bird species are endangered. With this campaign, we were able to engage socially at the same time, as the nesting boxes were purchased from the Rüttihubelbad social therapy community, which provides work for people requiring additional support. The nesting boxes are exclusively made from solid wood, which usually comes from the community's own forest, gets processed in a resource-friendly way and is not treated with chemicals.

KinderInsel foundation

As a Green Key establishment, we assume social responsibility. The KinderInsel foundation had its green and white lighthouses in our building from autumn 2022 to April 2023. We used them to collect donations for this charity, which supports the children's hospital at the Inselspital in Bern. It helps to create a child-friendly environment and ensure the provision of high-quality medical care as well as providing support for parents and siblings. After all, when a child is ill, it affects the whole family. The lighthouse has now gone on a trip, but we are planning to have it back again for the summer. Further information is available at

StattLand

As a Green Key establishment, we are socially active. Since the start of 2023, we have been regularly welcoming StattLand – a Bernese association specialising in bringing to life everyday history and living environments. It explores social, cultural and political issues, bringing people and knowledge together. We support this association and, by arrangement, open our doors to give those who are interested a look behind the scenes.

Volunteering for Swiss soup day

As a Green Key establishment, we are committed to good causes. It has now almost become a tradition for us to take part in Schweizer Tafel's Soup Day. We chopped up 300 kilograms of rescued pumpkins and other vegetables, turning them into a delicious soup, which was ladled out at the 20th Schweizer Tafel Soup Day. Our support for the event enabled us to help two good causes in one go: we prevented food waste, and the donations for the delicious soup help people at risk of poverty.

Amenities for a good cause

As a Green Key certified establishment, we stand for social responsibility. We donated around 10,000 small tubes of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel from the hotel for a good cause – the Sleeper association, which has run a night shelter for the homeless and a soup kitchen in Bern for more than 20 years. Our hotel rooms have had dispensers for shampoo, conditioner and shower gel since the start of the year – because this is more sustainable and because we offer plastic-free hotel rooms. Simply throwing away the small tubes from our stocks was out of the question. After all, discarding things unused cannot be sustainable.
